So What Does Our Green Engineer Programme Cover?
Because most of our students have no prior experience we take you though foundation building at a very basic level. You can move through this at your own pace knowing that building the best foundations will help you learn more quickly as your skills and knowledge advance.
A major part of the way we train people involves hands on practical exercises in one of our state of the art training facilities. Here you actually do the jobs you’ll undertake day to day in a controlled and supervised environment.
Because of the nature of the Green environment the Programme is developing quickly to make sure you gain the correct skills and qualifications. Currently the Programme consists of the following parts (please ask a Course Advisor for more details of how it is likely to change to benefit you in your new green career):
- Foundation understanding of renewable and green technologies;
- The basics of domestic plumbing;
- The laws and regulations surrounding domestic homes;
- Saving people money with often free or Government Funded options;
- Technical certificate (from City & Guilds) in heating systems;
- Electrical skills and Defined Scope Part P;
- Solar installation courses and design;
- Rain water harvesting design and installation;
- Ground source course including heat pumps design and installation;
- Introduction to leading employers in the green energy installation field;
- Help setting up your own business using our proven ‘Business Builder Programme’.
The Renewable Energy Training Programme consists of elements which are experiencing a rapid increase in demand. For example, solar hot water systems are attracting up to 80% Government Grants to cover most of their installation costs by properly qualified installers. The latest solar hot water systems can provide 90% of an average home's hot water requirements (including heating) and the costs can be recovered in the savings on fuel bills in only 5 years. Hence, all parts of our Programme lead to recognised qualifications. These qualifications are required to undertake the necessary technical work and also to advise on claiming relevant Government funding.
